WALKAROOS - Our National Team Program
We are very proud to introduce our National WF Team Program. The Australian Walking Football Walkaroos National Team Program is a pathway designed to identify, develop, and showcase top Walking Football talent in Australia. With our Trials procedures, this program is designed to prepare the best players to compete at the highest levels at our international Walking Football competitions, both home and away.
Here are the key components of the program:
Talent Identification
Nationwide Trials:
Organised trials from various cities and tournaments across Australia with local scouts and select the most talented and available Walking Football players.
Opportunities for players from all backgrounds and skill levels to showcase their abilities.
Scouting Network:
A network of experienced scouts attending local and regional Walking Football matches and tournaments (when possible).
WFAW scouts to identify potential national team members.
Training and Development
National Training Camps:
Intensive training camps for selected players, focusing on advanced skills, tactics, and fitness.
Sessions led by experienced coaches and former professional players.
Individualised Training Programs:
Personalised fitness and skill development plans tailored to each player’s needs.
Ongoing assessment and feedback to ensure continuous improvement.
Competition and Exposure
International Tournaments:
Participation in international Walking Football competitions such as the World Championships in May this year at Chesterfield and Malmö, Sweden in 2025, then in Australia 2026, plus other prestigious tournaments.
Regular participation in friendly matches and tournaments against top international teams.
Domestic Tournaments:
National and local to provide regular, high-level match experience.
Showcasing talents through domestic tournaments to build team cohesion and competitive edge.
Support and Resources
Scouts/Coaches/Selectors:
This is currently in its infancy in Australia. However, we do have scouts in various states around the country who supply and support WFAW with recognising talented players
Emphasis on holistic development including mental health and overall well-being.
State-of-the-Art Facilities:
Access to the best training facilities and equipment. Perry Park in Brisbane, Soccer5s in Tuggerah NSW
Community and Growth
Grassroots Development:
Collaboration with local clubs to promote Walking Football at the grassroots level.
